Dr Shashank Shende

Dr Shashank Shende is an alumnus of VJTI, having completed B.E. in Textile Technology in 1990. After a short stint as a faculty in Textile Engineering department, Dr Shende completed MBA (Marketing) from Nagpur University. Later while in employment, he secured a Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade (PGDFT), LLB and PhD. Presently, he is enrolled for the D.Litt (Doctor of Literature) program from Sankalchand Patel University, Gujarat.

Dr Shashank Shende, separated from MMTC Limited (a public sector undertaking of the Union Ministry of Commerce) as Deputy General Manager, Ahmedabad Office In-charge in October 2024, after a journey spanning over three decades in different geographies like Mumbai, New Delhi Corporate Office and in functional areas of international trade, domestic bullion trade and General Administration.

While in MMTC, Dr. Shashank Shende joined KASEZ (Kanla Special Economic Zone) on deputation as JDC (Joint Development Commissioner) for Ahmedabad SEZs Cluster. As the JDC he promoted initiatives to ensure Ease of Doing Business for the Industry and thus further developed the SEZ by getting in more Investment and Employment in the Zone. He is well conversant with state and central SEZ policy, his contributions in the SEZ policy formulation have been acknowledged.

He carries valuable managerial experience of more than 22 years with MMTC Limited both at the Corporate Office level in policy formulation, liaison with banks and Government bodies and risk management, as well as in the regional offices in policy implementation. Dr. Shende headed the Precious Metals Division at Mumbai and worked on the India Gold Coin Project (Initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister under “Make in India Scheme”) and Silver Cluster Project at Hupari, Dist Kolhapur. He led a number of times Business Delegation of Indian diamantaires for Rough Diamonds from ALROSA, RUSSIA under Protocol of Intentions between Government of India and Russian Federation.

Gujarat University has conferred PhD in Management in 2020 for his research work on Socioeconomic Impact of Special Economic Zones in Gujarat. His research work was accepted by American publisher M/s Peter Lang Inc New York and Book titled Socio-Economic Impact of Special Economic Zone in Gujarat was globally published on Amazon platform in October 2021.He is a Fellow Member of The Institution of Engineers (FIE) and Chartered Engineer (CE).

Additionally, he has contributed number of research papers and policy Intervention on SEZs as well as In-House Faculty for MMTC, KASEZ, and Gujarat University.
