Established in 1887, the department of Mechanical engineering remains among the premier departments of VJTI. It has had a long and illustrious history and offers courses at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The department is recognized for doctoral research by the University of Mumbai.
The department has kept pace with the rapid development of computer aided methods of design and manufacture with state of the art robotics and CAD/CAM facilities.
The laboratories in the department are recognized in a number of areas as testing facilities. The department also has workshops for training in smithy, carpentry, welding and machine tools.

Vision
To mould the prospective and potentially talented students into capable mechanical engineers who can acquire advanced knowledge if and when needed, serve the needs of mechanical industry globally at large with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of engineering concepts and related technologies and glorify the name of the country.
Mission
- To build, maintain and develop environment which is conducive to learning for dedicated students and stimulate faculty and staff to perform at their optimum capabilities.
- To impart long lasting knowledge about demanding engineering technology to the receptive students of the institute.
- To prepare students to build upon the gathered knowledge as per demanding needs of the society and apply the engineering concepts judiciously where ever required.
