Industrial Visit to Thermal Power Plant, Nashik Eklahare by the Electrical Department on 02/10/2024
The Electrical Department of VJTI organized an industrial visit to the Nashik Eklahare Thermal Power Plant on October 2, 2024, for the DEE 3rd Year batch (2024-25). Nashik Thermal Power Station, with an installed capacity of 910 MW (140 MW × 2 units + 210 MW × 3 units), has been operational since its first unit was commissioned in 1970. The initial project cost, including civil works, amounted to ₹56.5 crores per unit. The second stage of the power station, consisting of three units of 210 MW each, was commissioned in later years. The power station spans 474 hectares and includes a self-contained township with all necessary amenities. Notably, the plant received ISO certification in April 2002. The first head of the power station, Shri Karanjkar, was supported by Shri C.L. Gupta and Shri Sen Gupta, who played vital roles in the plant's development. The second stage of the project began in April 1976, with Shri C.N. Swamy appointed as the first Project Manager for construction and commissioning. The first unit of the second stage was commissioned in 1980.
The visit provided students with valuable insights into the operation and maintenance of large-scale thermal power plants and their historical significance.
